From the beginning, the Ouray Trail Group has published a map of Ouray County Trails both as a public service and as a modest source of income to support our ongoing mission. In 2007, the Group also published the first edition of a small guide to trails suitable for both the younger hiker and those looking for a gentler hiking experience.
The first edition of the OTG map, published in the 1986, included 13 trails, whereas the current edition covers 84. The growth is a tribute to the Trail Group and others in the continuing effort to restore lost historic trails and construct new ones where needed.
The map incorporates 12 USGS sections spanning several counties and features hiking trails around Ouray, in the Mt. Sneffels and Uncompahgre Wildernesses and in the Red Mountain / Ironton area. Also included are detailed descriptions of the trails, their location, lengths, elevations, difficulty and other details essential to the hiker.
The Book describes 13 shorter trails that begin in Ouray and which are not only gentler but also lead to stream channels, waterfalls and other features that will interest the younger generation – of all ages.
