 Trail Updates

NOTE: "Spring" runoff continues. Please be aware that you may be able to cross a stream easily in the morning, but as the heat of the day progresses, runoff may be such that you cannot re-cross that stream. Consider carefully any stream crossing this time of the year.

July 22: The following trails have been opened in the past two weeks:
Blaine Basin, including rebuilding 3 bridges; Weehawkin; Dallas west from Miller Mesa; Horsethief to the wilderness border. There is snow past Difficulty. Courthouse Peak; Gray Copper. Blue Lakes was worked in conjunction with the USFS on July 19, and is in good condition.
The following was noted on the West Fork of the Cimarron on July 17:
I hiked this trail up to the treeline today and found several large trees down across the trail. There were about six ranging from 9 to 15 inches diameter, plus a couple of smaller ones, between about 1/2 and 1 mile in from the trailhead. There was still a lot of snow going up to the pass, and a little in the trees. Other than the trees the trail to the treeline was in pretty good shape.
Also, FYI, there was lots of snow on the trail from lower to upper Blue Lakes last weekend (July 6th); and according to the BLM and a lady I encountered on the hike, the Highland Mary Lakes area was clear if you go there by way of the Continental Divide Trail rather than the Highland Mary Trail, which was treacherous in the boulder field near the top (with snow). Happy hiking, Tom (Rees)

July 9: The Oak Creek Loop and Corbett Canyon trails are open. Weehawken will be worked tomorrow, and Horsethief on Monday, July 14.

June 27: All trails out of Ouray are open. The Storm's Gulch/Shortcut Loop in the Baldy system is fully open. Upper Cascade (Chief Ouray Mine) is open. Blue Lakes is open to the lower lake, but there is some snow to traversed for about the last mile. Bear Creek is open to the Yellow Jacket mine, and possibly a bit further.
